Three Favorite Coffee Shops in Providence, Rhode Island
1. Dave’s Coffee Roasters // 341 S Main St, Providence, RI 02903
The coffee roasters at Dave’s really knew what they were doing when they created their line of micro roast coffee and small batch coffee syrups. It’s location near both the Rhode Island School of Design and Brown University make Dave’s a popular choice among students. You can order delicious coffee and espresso drinks at the counter or purchase coffee beans, mugs, coffee syrup, hats, and other keepsakes to take home. If you’re like us, you’re wondering what coffee syrup is and why Providence locals are so crazy about it. Coffee syrup is a Rhode Island specialty that began back in the 1930’s. Dave’s Coffee Syrup is made with all natural ingredients, like cane sugar and madagascar vanilla, and can be used as a mixer in cocktails, blended in milkshakes, used for baking and cooking, as a topping for frozen yogurt and ice cream (our fave!), or to make the official state drink of Rhode Island: coffee milk!
2. Bolt Coffee Co. // 122 Fountain Street, Providence, RI 02903
Art + coffee + modern minimal design. What’s more, their coffee is roasted locally in Providence. You’ll find Bolt Coffee nestled on the first floor of The Dean Hotel with its very own entrance on the side of the building. You’ll know you’ve arrived when you approach the black and white mural that reads “for a long time I went to bed early” and pass under the sign for Bolt Coffee Co. Once through those doors, you’ll find a serene café serving coffee, espresso, and light pastries. Bolt Coffee is easy enough to find, but its somewhat low profile entrance and cozy interior make it a hidden gem. Take a seat at the community table or sink into a comfy chair in the small section of lounge seating near Bolt Coffee’s signature neon sign.
3. New Harvest // 130 Westminster St, Providence, RI 02903
Coffee by day, whiskey by night. New Harvest is located in The Arcade shopping hall in downtown Providence. Surrounded by small vintage boutiques and local eateries, New Harvest is a great place to enjoy your morning coffee before exploring the city. The quiet daytime atmosphere also makes this little shop the ideal place to read, get some work done on your laptop, or have a quiet conversation with a friend. Their coffee is sourced from some of the world’s best coffeeing growing regions and is roasted with love in Providence.
